[Parent-Child Experience] Kumano Shugendo Adventure
On the first day, experience walking the Kumano Shugendo trail dressed in the same shugendo robes as Yamabushi (mountain monks) and take part in an authentic Goma fire ritual.

After learning about the Kumano Shugendo traditions at Seigantoji Temple in Nachisan, participate in the powerful and impactful Goma ritual, featuring dramatic flames. Children will wear specially prepared shugendo attire, identical to those worn by real Yamabushi, and walk along the sacred "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range," a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Parents are encouraged to join and watch their children walk alongside the Yamabushi. Lunch includes a local specialty, Mehari Sushi, a dish unique to Kumano.

This activity offers an extraordinary experience at the sacred site of Nachisan, providing insights into Kumano's history, nature, and the importance of family bonds.

On the second day, witness the excitement of a fresh tuna auction, typically accessible only to professional buyers!

Enter the bustling auction site wearing the same special hats used by the traders. This immersive experience teaches sustainable fishing methods, how to select the freshest tuna, and the importance of appreciating the blessings of life and food—lessons that go beyond classroom learning.

Create your own custom tuna bowl by selecting premium cuts of fresh tuna and arranging them on warm rice. Together, say “Itadakimasu!” and savor the delicious fresh tuna from Nachikatsuura, appreciating the bounty of the sea as a family.

In case of rain, the outdoor Shugendo trail experience will be adjusted to an indoor activity, including trying on Shugendo attire, participating in the Goma ritual, blowing a conch shell, and drumming.
The Shugendo trail experience involves walking approximately 1.2 km (about 30 minutes) on the Kumano Kodo.
