Experience the Counterculture Town of Shimokitazawa

Obon, an ancient Japanese custom, is a time in summer when people welcome the spirits of their ancestors and make offerings to their souls.
Bon Odori is a traditional event where people entertain, spend time with, and bid farewell to these spirits during Obon.
In Japan, Bon Odori is a significant summer event celebrated in many places, allowing you to experience how ancestral beliefs remain vibrant today.
On this tour, you will gain deeper insights into Obon and immerse yourself in the traditional culture of Bon Odori.

In Shimokitazawa, a hub of counterculture, you will explore Obon culture by visiting a shrine and wandering through the eclectic streets. Depending on your interests, we can also introduce you to the unique fashion scene where young Japanese mix vintage clothing with contemporary styles, as well as the local theater and music culture.

Alternatively, we can guide you through the newly developed areas around the station, which repurpose former railway tracks similar to New York's High Line.
Finally, we will join the Shimokitazawa Bon Odori dance, which begins in the evening.

If you wish, we can also arrange yukata rentals or purchases and other services.
